6/29:           Dog Adoption Event with Homeward Trails! 10 AM-Noon, Conservancy Office Grounds --

The Conservancy is pleased to offer its first dog adoption event through a local animal rescue organization called Homeward Trails. The event will be held at the Conservancy office grounds, 10 AM-12 PM, on Saturday, June 29th. The link to the event and, eventually, to the dogs that will be attending is:  As the event gets closer, Homeward Trails will update the page with the dogs that are going to be there.

Homeward Trails will bring applications and information on adoption to the event but people are encouraged to apply for adoption of a dog online: Same-day adoptions are not offered at off-site events at this time. However, their adoption center in Fairfax Station does. It is an opportunity to meet and interact with pets in need of forever homes who are available for adoption.

General Information for potential adopters:

1. Potential adopters must fill out the adoption questionnaire.

2. Someone will contact applicants within 24-48 hours.

3. A phone interview will be conducted to go over the application.

4. For potential adopters who currently do not have a pet or never have, Homeward Trails will conduct a home visit to make sure they are a good fit.

5. A time is then scheduled for adopters to come in a sign the contract/pick up the dog.

*Adoptions fee vary from dog to dog. The fee is listed on each dogs profile.

Local Girl Scouts have been invited to host a bake sale at this event.

If there is strong interest in this type of activity, the Conservancy will consider expanding these events in the future to include other pet services, food trucks, longer hours, etc.

If you have been thinking about adopting a dog, please check out this great wonderful opportunity to rescue a deserving animal companion. Please contact Brittani Crawley, Community Services Rep-Activities,, formore information about the event.
